Benin has a developing football culture. While there is no official ranking system for the country's football clubs, here are ten of the most popular and successful clubs in no particular order.

 

1. Akanké FC

Akanké FC is a Benin-based African football club. After being relegated from the Benin Premier League in 2013, they now play in the Beninese Second Division. The team currently plays at the Stade Municipal de Savalou. The stadium can accommodate 1,500 people.

They also participated in the 2012-2013 Benin Premier League.

2. Association Sportive Dragons FC de l'Ouémé

The Association Sportive Dragons FC de l'Ouémé, also known as Dragons de l'Ouémé, is a Beninese football club based in Porto-Novo. They compete in the Benin Premier League, the country's first division.

They won the Benin Premier League 12 times (like in 1978, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1993, 1994, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003) and the Benin Cup 6 times (1984, 1985, 1986, 1990, 2006, 2011).

 

3. ASPAC FC

ASPAC FC is another long-standing Cotonou-based Beninese football club ASPAC FC, founded in 1956 with a large fan base. They are currently competing in the Benin Premier League. For the first time in history, the club won the Benin Premier League in 2010 and 2012. They also won the Benin cup once in 2008.Achievements

 

4. Les Buffles Football Club du Borgou 

Les Buffles Football Club du Borgou is a Beninese professional football club based in Parakou. It's also one of Benin's oldest and most successful clubs, founded in 1951. Buffles FC has won several national titles and competed in national competitions like Benin Premier Leaguecontinental competitions.

After merging the city's two major clubs, the club was founded in 1976 in Paraku as Association Sportive Buffles FC du Borgou.

5. Jeunesse Athlétique du Cotonou

Jeunesse Athlétique du Cotonou is a football club based in Cotonou, Benin. They compete in the Benin Premier League, the country's first division. Previously known as Jeunesse Athlétique du Plateau, the club played in Pobè, a city in Benin's Plateau Department.

The team currently plays at the 5,000-person capacity Stade Jean-Pierre Gascon.

6. Mogas 90 Football Club 

Mogas 90 Football Club is a Beninese football club based in Porto-Novo. Mogas 90 FC was founded in 1990 and quickly ranked among the most successful clubs in the country, having won several national titles.

They are currently competing in the Benin Premier League. Here are some of the achievements: 

  • Winners Benin Premier League thrice (1996, 1997, 2006)
  • Winners Benin Cup ten times (1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2012)

7. Requins de l'Atlantique Football Club 

Requins de l'Atlantique Football Club is a Benin football club based in Cotonou. They compete in the Benin Premier League, the country's first division.

The club has won numerous times like: 

  • Benin Premier League (1985, 1987, 1990)
  • Benin Cup (1978, 1981, 1983, 1988, 1989)

 

8. Energie FC 

Energie FC is a Beninese football club based in Seme-Kpodji. They are currently competing in the Benin Premier League. The club won the Benin Cup in 1997. The team now plays at the 3,000-seat Stade Saint-Louis.

 

9. Dynamo Abomey FC 

Dynamo Abomey FC is an Abomey-based Beninese football club. They last competed in the Benin Premier League during the 2010/11 season, which was canceled. Dynamo FC, founded in 1963, has a reputation for developing young talent, producing several players who have gone on to play for the national team.

The club trains in the Stade Goho 5000-capacity stadium.

10. Tonnerre d'Abomey FC
