Ministry introduces Jonathan Borg as head of the regulator following weeks of rumors.
Jonathan Borg has been named the new CEO of Transport Malta, the company said in a brief statement on Saturday morning. On Monday, May 1, Borg, who presently serves as chairman of Yachting Malta, will formally assume responsibility for the position.
The appointment indicates that Curmi, a former armed forces commander, led Transport Malta for less than a year. Last March, independent election candidate Arnold Cassola claimed that Curmi had reportedly resigned from his position as the head of the AFM.
Aaron Farrugia, the transport minister, had said at the time that he would be making changes at the regulator "tomorrow" but had refrained from explicitly rejecting that.

However, weeks passed with no updates on Curmi or the top TM position. Farrugia instead promised to announce changes "in due course" in a speech to parliament.
There was no mention of Curmi's resignation or replacement in the statement released on Saturday announcing Borg's appointment as CEO of Transport Malta. Instead, the minister only stated that he "thanked Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi for his work" about the departing CEO.
With more than 30 years of expertise, Borg is a seasoned maritime industry veteran. He had been given the job of managing Yachting Malta by Farrugia less than six months prior, in late November 2022.
