The average monthly rent in August for a one-bedroom in Vancouver was up 13.1% and up 9.5% for a two-bedroom compared with the same month last year, according to the report.
Burnaby finished third behind Toronto on the list of 35 cities for highest rent, with a one-bedroom home costing around $2,555. For a two-bedroom place in Burnaby renters need about $3,433.

Number 11 on the list was Victoria, where a one-bedroom will set renters back $2,080 a month or $2,883 for a two-bedroom, according to the report. Surrey finished 15th on the list of 35 cities, with the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom at $1,962 and for $2,550 for a two-bedroom.

Overall, the report says average rents in Canada reached a new record high of $2,117 in August, with a monthly increase of 1.8% and an annual growth rate of 9.6%. Over the past three months, the Canadian rental market experienced a 5.1% increase in rent, equivalent to a monthly rent increase of $103, according to the report.
