Zanzibar hopes to attract 1 million tourists in the next two years

A report says Zanzibar, a popular island destination in Africa, hopes to draw over one million tourists over the next two years by capitalizing on its rich cultural history, historical landmarks, balmy beaches, and marine resources.

According to eTurboNews, the government of Zanzibar is now rebuilding the island's tourist infrastructure, including roads that are being expanded and the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA), among other projects.

Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, the island's president, has described several development initiatives the island's government carried out to boost tourism, intending to draw 850,000 visitors over the following two years.

Late last week, President Mwinyi launched the first premium Zanzibar Tourism and Investment Forum, intending to bring together tourism investors from East Africa, Africa, and other sources of the global tourist market.

Almost 300 people attended the "Z - Summit 2023" international tourism summit, held on February 23–24 at the Golden Tulip Convocation Center at Zanzibar Airport.

The purpose of the Z-Summit 2023 was to bring together essential figures and stakeholders in the tourism sector from East Africa, Africa, and foreign investors to discuss and develop strategies for increasing tourism to Zanzibar and the rest of Africa.

According to Dr. Mwinyi, one of the initiatives the island's administration took to encourage tourism growth is constructing Pemba Airport, which is anticipated to increase tourism potential.
UNESCO has designated Stone Town as a World Heritage Site. He claimed that Zanzibar is appreciated for its historic structures. Most visitors to the island arrive in Stone Town.

Zanzibar's president used the occasion to extend invitations to additional travelers and investors, stating that Zanzibar's doors are open to everyone who wants to invest there. The "Tourism for Everyone" concept, according to Dr. Mwinyi's government, has been used to emphasize sustainability in the Blue Economy Policy's implementation.

Zanzibar's Blue and Green economies have a rare opportunity to draw about 81% of travelers worldwide who chose sustainable tourism locations.

Since 2019, Zanzibar has seen a steady increase in the number of rooms, adding an average of 2,000 rooms annually and opening new, internationally recognized hotels and resorts.

Simai Mohamed Said, the island's tourism and heritage minister, stated that Zanzibar draws visitors annually. Together with Seychelles and Mauritius, Zanzibar is one of the top tourist attractions in Africa's Indian Ocean.
