Elon Musk sparks reaction as he sets to rename Twitter.
Elon Musk has officially altered Twitter's logo from the iconic blue bird to a black-and-white X," the latest significant alteration since he purchased the firm for $44 billion last year.
Musk shared a shot of the "X" projected atop Twitter's San Francisco offices on Monday, the same day the new logo appeared on the desktop version of Twitter. The bird, though, remains visible on the smartphone app.
Musk announced his plan to modify the logo in a series of Tweets over the weekend, revealing the new logo and inviting fans to design a different logo that, if "good enough," would go live globally.
"And soon, we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds," Musk wrote on Twitter.
What exactly is 'X?'
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino stated in a series of tweets regarding the platform makeover that X will transform the "global town square."

In 1999, he created X.com, an online financial services company that is now known as PayPal. Users are now redirected to Twitter.com via the x.com web domain.
