The Way of Water was released on December 16, 2022, and grossed $134.1 million in its first weekend. Avatar: The Way of Water hasn't finished its second weekend yet, so it's unclear how much it will drop off;
However, if it follows in the footsteps of James Cameron's previous two films, its box office performance won't behave like typical blockbusters, and it'll earn the majority of its revenue in the long run.

2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released on April 8, 2022, and grossed $72.1 million in its first weekend. Unfortunately, its second-weekend box office decreased by 59.4 percent, resulting in a total domestic box office of $190.9 million. Its domestic opening weekend numbers were the lowest among the top ten films.
