Today marks Morocco's first day of Rajab according to the Islamic calendar

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Religious Endowments reported in a news statement that the crescent moon was visible on January 22 at dusk.

Rajab, the month before Sha'ban and the holy month of Ramadan, officially begins on Monday in Morocco, thanks to the appearance of the crescent moon.

However, Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is one of the holiest occasions in Islam.

Muslims fast from sunrise to dusk during Ramadan. Depending on the crescent month, Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days.

Muslims are prohibited from smoking, consuming non-prescription drugs, or chewing gum while fasting during Ramadan.

The elderly and those who require medication are spared from fasting.

By spotting the crescent, Muslim scholars can determine when the holy month of Ramadan officially begins. Last year, Morocco observed the start of Ramadan on April 3, 2022.
