According to the African Union (AU) Commission, Raila Odinga's five-year term as the continent's High Representative for Infrastructure Development has ended.
In October 2018, Odinga took up the position.
The former Kenyan Prime Minister demonstrated extraordinary leadership during his time serving as special envoy, according to a letter from AU chairperson Moussa Faki that was viewed by The Standard and dated February 19, 2023.
"Excellence, you played a crucial part in this trip. Please accept my sincere thanks for agreeing to take on this responsibility during the changeover phase, which has now joyfully ended.
The AU chief said, "The African Union aspires to continue counting on your assistance for other potential assignments."
Odinga's function
Odinga enlisted political backing and development funding from member states and local economic communities as the AU's High Representative for Infrastructure Development.
The programs of the New Partnership for Africa's Development Agency (NEPAD) to promote more significant commitment from development partners were also endorsed by Odinga.
The fundamental goals of NEPAD are to end the marginalization of Africa, end poverty, put Africa on a sustainable development path, and empower women.
In his capacity, the former prime minister also devoted special attention to the Trans-African Roads Network's missing linkages along the international highway routes to facilitate its modernization and development.
