Adding at least 2M twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) a year and doubling the port of prince rupert's overall container capacity are anticipated benefits of the second terminal.

The new Fairview Terminal, which will be operated by DP World Prince Rupert as well, will also be constructed to the south of the current Fairview Terminal.

According to Aecom, the terminal will be entirely electrified and use cutting-edge technologies with an exclusive multimodal operation model to support a reliable and sustainable transportation system.

Aecom will evaluate the proposal to ascertain whether building the port is technically and financially feasible and conduct the baseline studies necessary for obtaining environmental permissions.

The development of a preferred operational plan and the evaluation of alternatives, the analysis of operating costs, the review of technologies and methods for green energy, and the evaluation of local road and rail networks are expected to be included in the scope of services and components of the feasibility study.

The scope is also anticipated to include environmental studies, project permitting, preliminary design, cost estimating, project scheduling, risk review, and risk mitigation.

These investigations will be used to influence the development and design suggestions. "We're thrilled to work with DP World and the Prince Rupert Port Authority on this exciting milestone towards building a new container port in Prince Rupert," Aecom Canada's CEO Marc Devlin stated.

The second terminal at Prince Rupert is planned to be a completely distinctive building that uses cutting-edge technology, durable infrastructure, and sustainable best practices.

We look forward to using our top-tier technical experience on this transformative project as a global leader in designing and delivering cutting-edge solutions for large port and terminal developments.

Maksim Mihic, CEO and general manager of DP World (Canada), expressed his company's satisfaction with Aecom carrying out the feasibility study.

"This is a huge step toward bolstering Canada's supply chain," he said. Within port bounds, we are building a completely integrated trading environment that will win over Canadian importers and exporters. This second terminal will also establish a new benchmark for environmentally and socially responsible operations.
