Simon Jordan has told Leeds United, Burnley, and Leicester City that they 'won't get far' if they seek legal action against Everton after the Toffee's were deducted 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).
According to the Daily Mail, all three clubs plan to sue Everton for £100million each - the figure they believe they lost by being relegated to the Championship. This comes after reports from the same publication that claimed the aggravated trio had drawn up plans to do so over the summer.
Leeds and Leicester were relegated to the Championship last season just behind Everton while Burnley are said to be convinced that Everton's spending breached PSR rules the previous season when they couldn't beat the drop.
Yet Jordan, writing in his Mail On Sunday Column, expressed his reservations about Leeds, Burnley and Leicester's case against Everton as he assessed the Toffee's next steps.
He wrote: “The challenge for Everton now is what to do next. Do they really want this delayed and hanging over them when the best course of action might be to take their medicine?
“Despite the penalty, they are still only two points adrift of safety and given the struggles of the promoted clubs, it might be an idea to take this one on the chin as I don’t see Everton going down. I also don’t see those clubs lining up to sue Everton getting very far.”
Sean Dyche's side have fallen from 14th to 19th place in the Premier League table as a result of the points deduction although they still remain with more than a fighting chance of staying up. Everton are only two points away from safety heading into matchday 13.
Premier League new boys Sheffield United and Luton sit ahead of them by one and two points respectively while Burnley are only behind the Merseyside club on goal difference alone. Everton face Manchester United at Goodison Park next Sunday as they bid to rise up the Premier League table once again.
