Queen Victoria's bloomers are up for bidding at Lawrence

You might find it amusing that a unique pair of Queen Victoria's hand-sewn knee-length bloomers—also known as knickers—with a single button, a drawstring waist, and a royal crest embroidery are being sold in Somerset.

In addition, a pair of matching leather slippers with satin bows and cut steel buttons and Queen Victoria's chemise or nightdress, embroidered with a Royal Crest, is up for auction on Wednesday, April 19, at Lawrence of Crewkerne.

The makers' label on the slippers reads, "Gundry & Sons, Makers to the Queen, The Princess & The Royal Family, 17 New Bond St, London."

The current owners received the items from the Oakden/Bickerton family line. The current owners received the items from the Oakden/Bickerton family line.

The artifacts were probably given to their ancestor, a Lady of the Bedchamber who served Queen Victoria.

The bloomers have an estimated value of £5,000–7,000 and were highlighted in a recent Antiques Roadshow program.

These fantastic artifacts from societal history are rarely seen at auction.

Lawrence anticipates tremendous interest because there are many passionate collectors of Queen Victoria-related things and Royal Memorabilia.
