GOAANSE 2023: A sports and arts festival of unity, diversity, and friendship
On May 2, Oakleigh Grammar hosted the much-anticipated 2023 Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia National Schools Event (GOAANSE), drawing students nationwide from Greek Orthodox schools.
The three-day event included a variety of sporting activities as well as a Creative Arts Festival, ending in a stunning closing ceremony. The GOAANSE competition began with a Blessing and Opening Ceremony at Sts Anargiri Church Oakleigh, laying the groundwork for an exciting and spirited competition.
The National Schools Event drew over 400 kids and teachers from around Australia. Boys' and girls' futsal, boys' and girls' volleyball, boys' and girls' football, boys' and girls' basketball, and boys' and girls' table tennis were among the sports in which students demonstrated their abilities.

The winning team, Oakleigh Grammar, won both the boys' basketball and the girls' volleyball games. The energetic home crowd's support contributed to the exciting environment, making it an unforgettable event for all participants.
In addition, the Oakleigh Grammar athletes performed impressive performances showcasing their commitment, cooperation, and sportsmanship. The Creative Arts Festival, which gave students a chance to showcase their artistic abilities through singing, dance, poetry, presentations, and plays, was undoubtedly the event's high point.
This portion of the tournament honored Greek culture and injected some originality. In addition, a joyful dinner dance that brought together students and teachers to celebrate successes and strengthen friendships was held after the festival.

Oakleigh Grammar pupils performed at the Creative Arts Festival as part of the Nationals Schools Event. The three days of competition, artistic performances, and camaraderie ended with a presentation and closing ceremony, during which Oakleigh Grammar Principal Mark Robertson expressed his gratitude.
Mr. Robertson remarked, "We had an incredible few days of athletic competition, artistic presentations, and togetherness. "It was very touching to witness staff and students unite on the dance floor at the gala dinner to honor friendship and culture.
And, of course, seeing our outstanding boy's basketball team and remarkable girls' volleyball team win championships was terrific. I congratulate them and all the other teams who participated in the competition, which was held respectfully and humbly.
