Lagos shuts down the Eko Bridge and reroutes traffic.

The Lagos State Government has announced that from today, Saturday, November 5, 2022, traffic on the Eko Bridge will be diverted from Ebute-Ero/Apongbon inwards Costain-Ijora-Olopa in order to facilitate urgent rehabilitation.

The response was made in response to a fire that started early on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Ijora-Olopa section of the Eko Bridge, damaging some of the bridge.

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who also mentioned the alternative routes, the diversion will enable the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out an exhaustive integrity assessment to ascertain the extent of harm caused by the fire incident for the safety of motorists.

Oladeinde suggested a detour that included Adekunle Street directly across from Panti Police Station, the Third Mainland Bridge to Adekunle to Herbert Macaulay Way, and Ebute Ero to the police station.

In order to get to the desired locations, he continued, one could use Alagomeji to access the Murtala Mohammed Way via Oyingbo, Iddo, Ijora Olopa, Ijora Oloye, Iganmu, and Costain.

As of Monday, November 7, 2022, drivers will also be able to access Costain via Ijora Olopa (near the LAWMA Headquarters) and the Eko Bridge, according to Oladeinde.

Oladeinde stated that "the state government is fully willing to ensure the safety of the commuting public within the metropolis" and that the State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has been deployed along the alternate routes to minimize inconveniences.
