Kola Abiola, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, has warned to go harsh on people calling for Nigeria to be divided into two countries if elected.
Speaking at a presidential debate organized by the South-West Development Stakeholders' Forum on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, the presidential candidate called the agitators and their activities treasonous.
"I Will Not Accept Any Action That Threatens Nigeria's Unity" - PRP Presidential Candidate Declares
Abiola, who called the agitators' actions unconstitutional, insisted that he would not accept any activity threatening Nigeria's unity.
His administration will support them if it does not jeopardize Nigeria's unity, promising to turn the country around for the benefit of all Nigerians, regardless of tribe, religion, or political allegiance.
He promised to build his administration on true federalism while criticizing some state governors for failing to implement local government authority. Concerning the constitutional review, he vowed to investigate all previous studies to obtain an acceptable constitution for the country.
The PRP presidential candidate stated that Nigeria requires new leaders with the people's best interests at heart and urged eligible voters, particularly women, not to risk their children's future in the next elections.
"Nigeria requires new leaders. Only the masses have the power to change this narrative. Don't sell your votes for N2,000. Don't give up your voice for two Kongos of rice. Vote for the proper candidate, which is why I am requesting your ballots today to restore our extraordinary country's lost greatness.
"We cannot travel freely longer because of insecurity, kidnapping, and armed robbery. That's why we need to go back to community-based police, where everybody would know what is going on in their neighborhoods.
"I will not accept anything that would harm the unity of this country. "I will be harsh on secessionists because their actions are unlawful and treasonous," he declared. Also speaking at the forum, Action Alliance presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore lamented the lack of unity among the Yoruba race.
He claims that most of the leaders have become bastards by attempting to prevent the late Obafemi Awolowo and late Moshood Abiola from becoming president of Nigeria.
He highlighted the late Awolowo's most outstanding achievements, particularly in education, health, and housing, emphasizing that many leaders were unfit to lead.
"Many Nigerians living overseas are eager to return home if Nigeria improves. But on the other hand, we have people who can reconstruct the country but don't want to return home. Nigeria, as a country, faces issues related to energy, security, and a huge crisis. If caution is not exercised, the challenges may become complex," he stated.
Sowore encouraged Nigerians to only vote for candidates willing to fight for the country's progress and only interested in their benefit.
