The Peoples Democratic Party in Kebbi State has gained eight new lawmakers from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The new entrant lawmakers comprised five members of the federal legislature and three members from the state legislature.

It was alleged that the procedures and manner in which the ruling party All Progressive Congress resulted in the mass exit from the party where many members alleged that they were disenchanted.

In the federal legislature, the senator representing Kebbi Central Senatorial District, Adamu Aliero; Kebbi North Senatorial District, Yahaya Abdullahi; Senate leader, including a member of the House of Representatives, defected from the APC to PDP. Also, members representing Aliero/Jega/Gwandu and Dandi/Arewa federal constituencies, Mohammed Jega and Abdullahi Zumbo, exited the APC for PDP.

In the state assembly, Habibu Labbo, Ismaila Biu, and Mohammed Aliero, representing Gwandu, Arewa, and Aliero constituencies, also renounced their membership of the APC for the PDP.

State Organising Secretary of the PDP in Kebbi State, Usaini Raha, confirmed the defection of the lawmakers to the party.

Muhammadu Adamu Aliero (senator representing Kebbi Central Senatorial District) explained that before arriving at a conclusion of leaving the party, he made several efforts to resolve the issue including complaining to the national headquarters of the party but in spite of the intervention of party officials, nothing positive came out of it.

He appealed to all his supporters in Kebbi Central Senatorial District as well as other loyalists across the state to vote for PDP to ensure its victory at all levels.

He said: “I, Muhammadu Adamu Aliero, people of my constituency, that is Kebbi Central and my teeming supporters from across Kebbi State have resolved to defect from APC to PDP due to the injustices we endured in our former party. Those in support of my political ideology were deceived and treated unjustly, hence the need for us to leave the party for another political party where we feel we shall be accommodated and treated justly.”

Hon. Abdullahi Zimbo, one of the defectors, also confirmed the defection. He however didn’t elaborate on the reason behind the decision.
