The federal government has officially launched rural electricity projects in Kogi's East and West senatorial districts.
Emekutu, Ikebe, and Ojagbo communities in Kogi East are the locations of the rural electricity projects, and Ayetoro Gbede, Isanlu, Anguwan-Kura, Araromi, and Olujumu are the communities that will benefit in Kogi West, the state's senatorial district.
Buhari launches Kogi electricity projects
While launching the initiatives, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), stated that the Federal Government was giving its people access to electricity in a sustainable way for social and economic development.
The President further noted that it was anticipated that the rural population's standard of living would improve with affordable electricity access through high-quality healthcare services, education, agricultural production, and security.
The President was represented by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu. The President said that this administration's strategy was to increase access to electricity.
He will do this by implementing grid extension projects in regions close to the national grid. This will also be done by using renewable energy, particularly solar-powered mini-grids, in locations where it is commercially viable, particularly in rural and remote areas with rugged geographic terrain.
However, the President declared that the government could not carry out such projects alone.
"Electricity and energy projects are capital intensive. In this vein, my government has been gradually creating policies and regulations that will serve as a good road map and incentives to draw private sector involvement in the financing, development, operation, and maintenance of rural electrification projects.
According to Nigeria's commitment to reducing global warming as contained in the updated National Determined Contributions of the Paris Climate Change Accord, "some of the programs of my administration designed to increase electricity access, especially through renewable power."
