Bribery allegations linked to Bobrisky lead to the suspension of four senior Nigerian Correctional Service officers. Investigations are underway to uncover the truth behind the claims.
A major controversy has erupted following the release of a viral audio recording implicating several senior Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officers in bribery allegations connected to popular social media personality, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.
The Nigerian government has responded swiftly by suspending four high-ranking officers pending further investigations into the claims.
At the heart of the matter are accusations made by Bobrisky, who claimed that during his six-month imprisonment for naira abuse, his "godfather" arranged for him to serve time in a private residence rather than a correctional facility. Bobrisky alleged that this arrangement was facilitated through a N10 million payment to the controller-general of the Nigerian Correctional Service. Additionally, he claimed to have paid N15 million to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges, with only the naira abuse charge remaining.
These revelations, first exposed by social media influencer Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse, have drawn widespread attention, prompting the Nigerian Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to order a full investigation. The suspensions include
- Michael Anugwa – Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
- Sikiru Adekunle – Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
- Ogbule Samuel Obinna – Assistant Superintendent of Corrections (ASC II) stationed at Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State.
- Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu – Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje, Abuja.
These actions were taken to allow for an impartial investigation into the alleged infractions. The Minister of Interior has assured the public that the government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served, and that any form of indiscipline or corruption will not be tolerated. The probe is ongoing, and the findings are expected to shed light on the integrity of the correctional system and those implicated in the scandal.
