Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), the Assembly has announced plans to roll out a new digital revenue collection system in March this year to increase and enhance revenue.

The new platform, anticipated to improve payment convenience, also aims to stop revenue leaks, lessen alleged corruption, and encourage voluntary compliance and a favorable rate-paying environment.

This information was provided on January 26 by the Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, who was leading a team of Assembly officers in educating traders about the introduction of new receipts for the payment of market and truck park tolls in the city.

Holograms are embedded in the new receipts that will be given out starting Friday, January 27, 2023, making it simple to determine which tickets were bought.

The first female mayor of Accra stated that the AMA was utilizing the government's push toward digitalization to develop a novel solution to increase its internal funding and stop all revenue leaks while lowering the human element.

She revealed that about 23 banks had been integrated into the new revenue collection platform to give users various payment options. She stated that aside from using the banks, ratepayers can equally pay their bills via mobile money on all networks, QR codes, and a USSD code.

She stated that all market women and traders in the city would be registered and given unique Quick Response (QR) codes to be used for paying bills from the Assembly before implementing the new revenue collection system in March.

She urged the business community and market women to embrace innovation to help Accra's residents advance.

Noble Atsu Ahadzie, the budget director for Metro, emphasized that the new system would send bills and receipts to ratepayers electronically and without human intervention.

He continued by saying that AMA implemented a thorough stakeholder engagement plan to ensure that all parties were well-informed before launching the digital revenue collection system.

Alfred Adjei, the presiding member and assemblyman for the Avenor electoral area, Muzah Ziyad, the chairman of the revenue subcommittee, and Francis Anaba, the director of metro finance, among others, were in attendance with the AMA boss.
