Bouraoui, a doctor by training who is French and Algerian, was detained in Tunisia last week and faced deportation to that country. Still, she could finally board a flight to France on Monday night.
The 46-year-old was given a two-year prison term in Algeria in May 2021 for "offending Islam" and insulting the leader.

Her departure caused a diplomatic incident between Algiers and Paris after French intervention, leading Algeria to recall its ambassador from France for consultations.
According to Radio M and the National Committee for the Liberation of Detainees (CNLD), the police in Algiers detained Wafa and Khadidja Bouaroui after searching their home.

Wafa was released early on Sunday, but Bouraoui's mother was kept in custody and moved to Annaba, close to the Tunisian border, according to the CNLD.
According to the reports, a cousin who resides in Annaba was also detained.

Algeria "firmly protested against the clandestine and illegal exfiltration" of Amira Bouraoui to France via Tunisia in a statement issued by the president's office on Wednesday.
Additionally, Ambassador Said Moussi was ordered to be recalled "with immediate effect" by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
France and Algeria have had chilly relations since the fall of 2021. Still, they warmed up after French President Emmanuel Macron visited the country in August last year.
