Having a steady career in finance can be simultaneously rewarding and fulfilling. Here are some good paying finance roles:


1. Accountant 

Auditors and accountants are sometimes interchanged. However, accountants are professionals that prepare financial statements with the use of accounting standards.

Auditors, on the other hand, are professionals that review these statements for accuracy, fraud, veracity, and other purposes with the use of auditing and investigative techniques.

Role: Accountants evaluate and prepare financial documents, making sure that all financial transaction records, including taxes, cash flow documents, income statements, and balance sheets, are accurate and comply with federal and international accounting standards.

Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting.


2. Accounts Assistant 

This is also known as an accounting assistant.

Role: Accounts assistant facilitates and documents the company's financial transactions, like utility bills, purchase orders, invoices, payments, reimbursements, payroll, and other financial processes.

They record all the transactions above and associated balance accounts and verify/update/enter information via accounting software or a customer database.

Experience: Bachelor's degree, diploma, or relevant field skill certification.


3. Assistant Accountant 

Also known as a junior accountant

Role: They perform administrative, bookkeeping, and clerical functions in supporting the company's Finance or Accounting department.

These professionals generate and present reports, manage documents, analyse financial data, and engage customers.

Experience: A diploma certification, prior bookkeeping experience, or a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Some assistant accountants can be students that have extensive accounting experience and are in the process of obtaining their diploma or degree.


4. Auditor

Auditors are sometimes interchanged with accountants. They(auditors) are professionals who review accountants' statements for accuracy, fraud or veracity, and some other purposes by using auditing and investigative techniques.

Role: They verify financial statements' accuracy and other business documents. They are employed to investigate and identify misrepresentations, accounting/bookkeeping errors, inadequacies, and fraud.

They help maintain documentary compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and policy. And also attest to business records veracity.

Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting. Some gain certification via a licensure exam.


5. Bank Manager

Also known as Retail Banking or Branch Manager.

Role: A bank manager's job is to oversee the operations of a banking team or unit, which is usually a financial institution retail branch. They perform administrative, customer care, marketing, sales functions, and business development for this unit. 

It is also a bank manager's duty to ensure every aspect of their unit fulfils every relevant internal policy as well as government and international standards and regulations.

Experience: A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, marketing, or other related fields. Candidates should possess significant banking experience and pass relevant Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) exams.

A competent bank manager has knowledge of international, local, and federal policies and standards that govern banking and finance.


6. Budget Analyst

Also known as a cost estimator.

Role: They prepare budget reports with the aim of helping organisations to monitor spending, balance finances, and rationalise costs.

Budget analysts review historical budget allocations, carry out cost analyses and provide insight on ways to make sure that the organisation achieves a better financial position as compared to the past.

Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, statistics, finance, or other related fields.


7. Chief Finance Officer

Also known as CFO, Finance Chief/Head.

Role: They play a top leadership and strategic role in an organisation's financial management and operations. They lead a company's revenue, finance, and accounting department, with a focus on achieving and projecting excellent financial health for the company.

Experience: A bachelor's degree or a postgraduate degree and many years of experience as a finance officer. 

Candidates need a very strong financial background, technical skills as well as experience to be competent in their role.
